Berthillon

After a failed attempt to visit Notre Dame, it was time to go on the one quest I needed to go in in Paris, ice cream at Berthillon.  It was just as I had remembered, New Orleans style jazz on the bridge between Notre Dame and Isle St. Louis, leading up to the gorgeous green awning that caused my mouth to water.  After waiting about fifteen minutes, a wait that was absolutely worth while, we were at the ice cream case.  I decided to go with a scoop of apricot and two scoops of Chocolat Noir.  First I went for the apricot.  I could taste the puree of fresh apricots they used for the ice cream.  It was a combination between biting into an apricot and the filling of a Russ and Daughters apricot hamentashen.  Then onto the Chocolat Noir, it is very difficult to describe this ice cream.  The texture at first is satiny smooth and incredibly light on your tongue.  It is almost difficult to sense how much ice cream has been licked up due to the intense chocolate flavor and the slick texture.  Just because the texture is silky smooth does not mean that it was airy.  The Chocolat Noir is incredibly dense, I almost had to chew it when I took a bite from the scoop.  It was such a deep chocolaty flavor that I am even now, three days later, still satiated by its chocolaty goodness.  I don't even think I am going to want ice cream until I get to Vienna this weekend and try an ice cream place that I have heard gives Berthillon a run for its money, but I will decide that for myself this weekend!
