Just a general note first. My posts will most likely no longer be in chronological order, between classes taking up more time and the number of things I want to post about (about fifteen or so posts after this one to catch up on), I am going to start to put in short posts if I have a little bit of time and longer ones if I have more time. Anyway, On to the Post!
Soft serve is not so big here. Ice cream is mostly in gelato form. Right outside the Brno caves we found this amazing single serve, soft serve contraption. Cornetto Soft seems to be the biggest name in this instant soft serve area, but there is a Nestle brand that has this ice cream format as well.
The first great thing about this ice cream is that they use real waffle cones, as opposed to the wafer ones that are used for all the gelato in the Czech Republic.
Then they take a ice cream cartridge out of the freezer and load it into the top half of the ice cream press. The cone is then loaded into the cone holder at the bottom.
The cone is raised until it is right under the ice cream cartridge.
The ice cream press operator then pulls down the slot machine-esque arm to provide the jackpot, seemingly soft serve like ice cream.
As you can see the whole process is about ninety percent efficient, I think they just leave that ten percent in the cartridge for a snack later though. After the ice cream is pressed they give you the cone and toss the "empty" cartridge.
It looks a little bit like uni but it tastes very similar to the Flintstones Push Pops, that made up so much of my memories in Pennsylvania as a little kid. The texture is not quite like soft serve, but it is softer then hard ice cream. Also I tried orange, my favorite FPP flavor!
It was actually orange and cream.
Here is a shot of the ice cream press operator hard at work.
