The Lennon Wall

In the Peter Sís post I showed you the pages about the Lennon Wall.  On Friday I went to go see it in person.  Now I can be a true Czech youth!  There is very little of the original murals left, There are additions of all types from every corner of the world and in thousands of languages.  There are so many different layers of art, graffiti, religious messages, political messages, complete nonsense, and above all Beatles quotes.  Below are four shots from different sections of the wall.  I urge you to click them and really look at the different layers and the messages and meanings that overlap.

It took me a few minutes to see all the different people that are painted all over the wall.  In the picture below there is a boy in a green shirt and jeans.  Below that there is a group of three kids, with an adult to their right.

This orange elephant (apparently jewish) was pretty neat.  I think it is part of some viral campaign in Prague, I have seen similar ones at a few other famous spots.

Here is one of the memorials to John Lennon.  It consists of a concrete bust of John Lennon next to an "Imagine" peace sign.  For the most part there seems to have been some respect shown to this particular peace sign.  While there is new art all within and over the structure, this peace sign is still very much intact.

On the left side of the wall there is a thin grave stone that protrudes from the wall.  It was added after the death of John and has a portrait that seems slightly Hirshfeld like.  Aside from the recent black righting across his face, this is another part of the wall which seems to have been shown some respect.
